Registry Cleaners
Jordan asked - Always follow your advise and appreciate it. Recently
downloaded regscrubxp. Initial scan produced over 300 problems and was
able to fix all but 75. Whenever I try to use program, 47 problems pop
up in 1 second under CLSID column and after complete probe, I have 75
problems. I "select all" and then "fix selected problems." A message
appears in the empty box (upper right) which says "fixing selected problems
=> in progress. After an hours run, with the fan going on high, no fix occurs.
This has happened every time I try. Please suggest a fix. Thanks.
Hmmmmm - I am very leery of registry cleaners because I have had problems with them in the past - to the point where one even crashed the computer. I think the best way to clean the registry is to format the drive and reload windows and applications - this cleans a lot more than the registry and works wonders on a tired computer.
For many years I would only use the one that came with windows 98 - it works on XP also. It was the only one I could trust 100% to not do more damage than good. I just read the description on this software at MajorGeeks and it sounds good. They claim that Fred Langa - whom I respect greatly - even recommended it so I feel that it probably is a good product. However, the registry is very complicated and you appear to have a problem that this program cannot fix. If the program will output the bad entries, then you could try manually cleaning it - AFTER making a backup of the section you are working on - or you could just forget about it as long as the computer is working well.
If you are experiencing problems that led you to trying a registry cleaner, then you might want to try another. I am using Tweak Now Power Pack 2006. It has lots of features and a good registry cleaner also.

I hope this helps!
