Add/Remove Programs questions
Sherry Asks:
1. I got information through Goggle, I would like to send it to a
News Paper in another Country. I have the name of the Newspaper
and an Email Address. Tried unsuccessfully. Is this Possible to do?
2. Should I remove Previous Updates in the "Add or Remove Program",
after a new Updating, such as, "Security Update for Windows",
"Window XP Hotfix (with different numbers), and some others?
3. Some others on the "Add or Remove Program', that are unfamiliar
to me, such as, "SiS 900 PCT Fast Ethernet Adapter Driver", also
"MSN Music Assistant", and "Windows WMF Metafile Vulnerability HotFix 1.4",
and "Windows Media Format Runtime", and " MSN Music Assistant", are
a few that I have no idea as to their function or if necessary.
Hope you can enlighten me somewhat.
Thank you, Sherry
1. Yes, it is certainly possible. The method may depend on the type and
formatting of the web page and material you are trying to send. Here are a
few ways to do it, starting with the simplest.
a. In the browser, click on "File" and then "Send". Click on "Link by E-Mail"
to just send the link (simplest method) or "Page by E-Mail" to include
the contents of the web page in your email.
b. To send only part of a web page, click and drag your mouse to select
the portion you want to send.
Click "Edit" and then "Copy" (or use one of the alternative
methods to copy the content). Start a new e-mail message and paste the
content into the body of the message where you want it.
c. If method b fails to maintain the format of the web page, you can try sending
it as a Word document. Copy the content as above but paste it into a new
Word document. Save the document and send it as an attachment.
NOTE: Keep in mind that there as many ways to create a Web Page as
there are people out there creating them and sometimes you may
just not be able to replicate exactly what you see on the web page.
2. Baring a few minor mishaps a few years ago, Windows Update has worked
very well in managing the updates on personal computers. I would not recommend
removing any updates unless you develop a problem and research on that
problem recommends removing such and such an update.
3. I do recommend removing programs that you do not need or use, however,
everything you mentioned in your question is pretty much a part of windows
or a a driver essential for the proper operation of your computer.
If you are not purchasing music from MSN, then you can safely remove MSN Music
Assistant.
If yoou do not listen to any music on your computer it is probably safe to
remove "Windows Media Format Runtime".
I would not remove anything that has the word "Hotfix" in it unless it is
a fix for something that you have removed from your system and you are
VERY SURE that you donot need it.
I would not remove anything with the word "Driver" in it unless you are sure
that that device is no longer installed in your system. If you remove the
SIIS Ethernet Adapter Driver, you will find oyurself with no LAN connection.
This may be OK if you are on a dial up internet service, but safer to let
it be.
I hope this helps!
