"The Memory Could Not Be Read" Error Message When You Open an E-Mail Message
Ed Asks:
Sporadically, when I close from WORD or a web site, I get the following:
The instruction at (address) referenced memory at (address). The memory could not be read.
I click OK and can continue on, but am concerned about getting the error shown.
I found a lot of varied answers to similar problems, but most of them appeared to be related to Windows 2000 and Outlook or Java console. Very little was related specifically to Windows XP. There were a few references to Internet Explorer and Outlook. There was a very specific reference to a problem like this when you open an email message, close it, open another and then re-open the first message and there is a hotfix for that one. I also found some forum references to bad web pages causing this problem.
Recommendations
Make sure you have all the latest Windows and Office updates.
Make sure your system is tuned up - defragged etc.
Try the email routine mentioned above and if that is the problem, see the fix below.
Test your system in an orderly manner to see if you can reliably replicate the problem. If so, let me know what you find and we can research it a little better.
